HB 234 - Creates a New Class of Protected Employees and New Grounds for Endless Lawsuits

Prohibits employment discrimination based on “gender identity” and “sexual orientation.” The bill would add “gender identity” and “sexual orientation” to the class of people who receive special protection against adverse employment action. Burden of proof would be on employer to show a “non-discriminatory” reason for not hiring or for firing a person in this category. This would open employers to a flood of lawsuits and would drive businesses from Louisiana simply for making decisions that are in the best economic interest of their business. LACAG opposes this bill.
