Prohibiting Perverse Ideology in the Classroom Bill
This bill would have prohibited public- school teachers who teach kindergarten through eighth grade from discussing their (the teacher’s) “gender identity” or sexual orientation at any time and would have prohibited any discussion about any student’s “gender identity” or sexual orientation during classroom instructional time. Importantly, the bill does not prohibit open discussions at school initiated by any student on these topics as long as those discussions do not take place in the classroom. This bill was warranted and necessary due to the increasing evidence of perverse sexual ideology being introduced to public grade school children in a classroom setting, against the wishes of, and often without the knowledge of, the students’ parents. It is worthy of note that Louisiana law currently prohibits the teaching of any sex education concepts until the seventh grade, so Horton’s bill prohibiting
the teaching of a radical sexual ideology between kindergarten and eighth grade was far from extreme and should have meet with full support among Republicans. Shockingly, Republican representatives Lance Harris (Rapides Parish), Vincent St. Blanc (St. Martin and St. Mary Parishes), Barbara Freiberg (East Baton Rouge Parish), and Stephanie Hilferty (Jefferson and Orleans Parishes), killed this vital legislation in the House Education Committee. Harris, the Chairman of the Committee, was too cowardly to cast a vote, and St. Blanc, Freiberg, and Hilferty all voted against. If these 4 Republicans had voted for the Bill, it would have gotten out of Committee in an 8-3 vote and onto the House Floor for a full vote, where it likely would have passed. These Republicans’ failure to support this vital legislation, embraced by an overwhelming majority of Louisiana citizens, invites further indoctrination of Louisiana school children into a radical sexual ideology, and disqualifies these officials from further service in elected office in Louisiana due to their abject failure to protect Louisiana children. And Republican Chairman Harris’ complete lack of leadership on the Bill should be noted for the history books.
