SB 208 - Provides for Sanctuary Policies

This legislation prohibits any agency in Louisiana from adopting an illegal alien sanctuary policy. The legislation imposes important requirements on law enforcement to communicate with federal authorities to effectively enforce federal immigration law, and it requires judges to document in their case files whether a defendant is in the United States illegally and subject to a federal detainer and subject to deportation. Importantly the legislation allows the Louisiana Attorney General to sue to enforce the new law, and it allows the governor to withhold funds from any agency who does not consistently enforce it.
